Tour Overview
While Paczki Day in the U.S. is traditionally observed the day before Ash Wednesday, in Poland pączki are especially popular on Tłusty Czwartek — Fat Thursday, the Thursday before Ash Wednesday. It marks the start of the final week of pre-Lenten celebrations. Learn about pączki and take home a six-pack from New Palace Bakery, known as Pączki Headquarters.
Enjoy lunch with polka music at Polish Village Cafe. Learn about Hamtramck on a guided tour of the Hamtramck Museum, then visit the Polish Art Center with an opportunity to shop.
Take a guided tour of St. Florian Catholic Church. Rising eight stories above ground, it recalls the great cathedrals of Europe. Its broad Gothic arch, delicate twin spires, intricate brickwork, and stained-glass windows are highlights of the visit. The altar windows depict five Polish saints — Casimir, Florian, Hedwig, Hyacinth, and Stanislaus — while the nave windows illustrate the life and teachings of Christ.
