Traveling to Canada with Custom Holidays
Several of our most popular tours cross into Canada. A little preparation goes a long way — here's everything you need to know so boarding day is smooth and stress-free.
Bring Your Identification
Every traveler must carry one of the following forms of ID to cross the border:
- Your current passport
- Passport card or NEXUS card
- Enhanced driver's license
We also suggest you bring a paper copy — or a picture on your phone — of your proper ID.
Your Driver's License Matters
Only an "Enhanced" driver's license is accepted for border crossing — a standard license does not qualify. If you're not sure whether your license is Enhanced, check with the Michigan Secretary of State, or give us a call and we'll help you sort it out.
Traveling with Minors?
Anyone under 18 should contact the office for additional requirements — call us at (313) 388-0448.
Do Not Bring
One-Day Trips
You may be denied boarding the morning of the trip if you do not have the proper documentation. There are no refunds.
Multi-Day Trips
You may be denied boarding the morning of the trip if you do not have the proper documentation. There are no refunds, and you may have to return home at your own expense.
For Wine Tours: Allowances
There are no allowances for wine if your stay in Canada is less than 48 hours — you may have to pay duty on any wine. If you stay for 48 hours or more, you may bring back 1 litre of alcohol, duty free.
Federal taxes & duty: You will be charged a standard duty fee (typically around 3% of the wine's value) plus federal Internal Revenue Service (IRS) excise taxes (usually between $0.21–$0.31 per 750 ml bottle).
